This is not about an issue. This is about mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters, and God’s love for all people. This demands compassion, empathy, and a willingness to listen.
If you are a parent whose child just came out, you may be struggling or wondering how to respond. We are parents too and want to help you through this crossroads and find a hopeful path for your family.
Many parents—especially Christian parents feel isolated and aren't sure how to respond when their child comes out. We offer hope that as a parent you don't need to choose between your faith and your child.
We offer a safe place where you can find resources, engage with professional life coaches, and meet other parents in a safe, spiritually nurturing environment.
Ideally, as a Christian, your spirituality should be a source of strength and healing. Your devotion to God should be a time of feeling connected to the grace of Jesus – a time filled with love, joy, and peace. Unfortunately, that isn’t everyone’s experience.
As a parent, the aftermath of a child’s revelation of being gay can leave you with a shattered sense of self. It's been said that when a child comes out of the closet, their parents go in. Your sense of reality has been shaken and called into question. It is difficult to know who to trust, what to believe, or what is good vs. bad for you and your child. That is a lot to take in and navigate.
Parents whose moral beliefs are in conflict with an LGBTQ+ child's sexuality are particularly vulnerable to feeling isolated, not only from their church community but also in their own relationship with God. They can be overwhelmed by shame and guilt, finding it difficult to pray, worship or read the Bible.
Hidden Wounds provides a safe place for parents of LGBTQ+ children of any age to start picking up the pieces.
We can work with you individually or in a small group of parents we call a Circle of Hope. We offer a form of community where you come together with a professional coach or with others on the same journey to co-create a safe space to share doubts, fears, and questions of God.
Here you will find an atmosphere of safety and become part of a network of other moms and dads who are similarly situated, offering understanding and support and eliminating feelings of isolation.
Hidden Wounds is partnering with PeacePrints https://www.centerpeace.net/peaceprints to offer retreats in Michigan for parents looking for hope and healing.
PeacePrints Retreats offers hope that parents don’t need to choose between their faith and their child. In a weekend environment find an atmosphere of safety and be introduced to parents from all over who are similarly situated, seeking a place of understanding and support.
Come join a retreat to help eliminate feelings of isolation.
Here are some testimonials from parents who attended past retreats:
The retreats are for parents of LGBTQ children of any age. Whether your child came out yesterday or years ago, you are welcome to join us.
